ENGH 202 - DL2: Gambling

We’re all gamblers now. This course tries to figure out what that means by exploring works of literature and film that portray the consciousness of gambling and how its sensibilities of risk, identity, and social meaning have changed over time. We will engage with representations and themes of gambling across a range of materials from classic short stories and novels to contemporary non-fiction and film. In addition to learning to understand gambling as more than a business but as a social and psychological phenomenon, students will learn skills of interpreting cultural contexts in works of art as well as writing and researching arguments. Assessment consists of quizzes, discussions, exams and individual projects connecting the insights of literature of the past with our contemporary moment.

This is an online asynchronous section.
